Job Title: Staff Accountant

Department: Finance

Location: The Standard, High Line

Reporting to: Finance Manager

Responsible for: N/A  

Job Purpose: This role is responsible for General Cashiering and assisting with all functions related to Accounts Payable, Cost & Inventory Management, Purchasing, Reporting & Analysis, and Month End Closing.

Qualification & Requirements

Essential:

• Physical:
• Able to remain stationary 90% of time in front of computer.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Periodical movement inside an office to access file cabinets & safe, operate machinery, operate calculator, operate copier, operate telephone.
• Able to pull, push, carry and lift at least 35 pounds o Must be able to seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands\
• Frequent communication with employees, vendors, management; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Understanding: Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions according to established procedures
• Comprehension: Fluent in the English language
• Organizational Skills: Work efficiently, utilize multi-tasking, prioritize tasks
• Technical Skills: Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe
• Hygiene and Sanitation: Adherence to uniform, grooming and personal hygiene standards and expectations per Standard of Operating Procedures
• Punctuality: Adherence to posted schedule and arrival time and attendance at mandatory meetings Responsibility: Personal comportment in line with Standard, New York policies, standards, and expectations
• Extensive knowledge of Data Plus, Opera Cloud, BirchStreet, Toast, and Craftable

Desirable:

• Previous work experience in finance & accounting
• Multi-lingual
• Basic knowledge of hotel and restaurant operations
• Experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling, FP&A, and income audit
• Good typing, math, problem solving, communication, and listening skills

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

• Responsible for all functions related to Cash Management, including:
  • Serving as property General Cashier
  • Auditing assigned manager banks, monthly
  • Auditing General Cashier Bank, monthly
  • Collecting, verifying, and preparing daily cash deposits including maintaining daily cash report
  • Monitoring and controlling employee deposit vaults and drop/safe procedures in accordance with internal audit procedures
  • Notifying managers of any cash over/short in line with hotel policy
  • Collecting and verifying manager returned banks
  • Preparing bank/hotel change requests, as required; Maintaining Petty Cash
    • Assist with all functions related to Accounts Payable, Cost & Inventory Management, Purchasing, Reporting & Analysis, including:
    • Daily scanning of food and beverage invoices and uploading to CraftableAnalyzing price fluctuations and reporting to F&B management teams accordingly
  • Maintain item mapping in Craftable to ensure POS and Craftable are synced o Review recipes to ensure all menu items are costed and in line with budgeted COGS
  • Maintain inventory lists & order guides for all departments as needed
  • Complete a weekly food and beverage COGS report
  • Assist with inventory reconciliations and COGS analysis, monthly o Complete monthly food and beverage theoretical cost reports o Assist with purchasing functions; ensuring all items purchased meet brand specifications and are purchased at the lowest cost available
  • Prepare daily bank reconciliations
  • Assist with all month end closing entries as assigned in accordance with USALI and GAAP
  • Assist with annual internal audit, including ongoing maintenance to ensure compliance across all accounting, finance, and purchasing functions
  • Document maintenance needs on work orders and submit them to Manger/Supervisor.
  • Perform other financial, accounting, and general office duties as assigned
